Story Maps

After reading several versions of the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears, students were introduced to the different elements of a story (e.g., setting, characters, problem, happenings, solution). Students drew story maps to retell the popular story using pictures.

Please practice retelling stories with your child at home! You can use levelled books or library books. Encourage your child to use time words to sequence the events (e.g., first, then, next, after that, finally). Encourage your child to include many details from the story, as well as language from the story (e.g., Papa Bear said "Someone's been eating my porridge!").

Building Structures

Students have been very engaged in building structures recently. They are building castles, train tracks, tunnels, ramps, and subway overpasses!

Our 3D Neighbourhood

As part of our unit on 3D shapes, students used boxes to create a neighbourhood. First we brainstormed a list of special places in our community. Then students worked in small groups to design a building and select the materials they needed (e.g., scissors, glue, paint, construction paper, markers, etc.) We displayed their finished work on the counter, and added some little people and vehicles for role play.
